SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — announces its YS-6 was the most-played wood shaft model at the TOUR Championship while three top-five finishers used Graphite Design shaft models throughout the event, according to the Darrell Survey.
The wood shaft model count victory was the second in a row for the YS-6, the most popular graphite driver shaft on the PGA TOUR from 2003-05. In addition, a trio of top-five finishers used Graphite Design’s YS-7, YS-Power and Purple Ice shaft models en route to their success. The three players combined to go 18-under par at difficult East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta while earning more than $1.4 million. Previously in 2006, Graphite Design shafts won graphite wood shaft model counts at such demanding venues as Pebble Beach Golf Links, Riviera Country Club, Westchester Country Club and Medinah Country Club.
“PGA TOUR players continually turn to Graphite Design shafts when shotmaking and accuracy are at a premium,” said Akio Karashima, CEO of Graphite Design. “Our shafts meet the stringent standards of the game’s finest players and deliver the same great performance to amateurs of all skill levels.”
On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design led the graphite wood shaft brand count with 133 shafts in play at the Asahiryokuken Yomiuri Open, 40 more than the nearest competitor, while the winner used Graphite Design models in his driver and two fairway woods. Graphite Design shafts have been the most-played brand for 131 straight tournaments on the Japan Tour, an unprecedented streak dating back to 2002.
Last year, Graphite Design shafts were used by 18 winners on the PGA TOUR and 42 winners worldwide, helping them amass more than $75 million in earnings. They were also played by PGA TOUR leaders in Total Driving (distance plus accuracy), five of the top-10 players in Driving Accuracy Percentage, four of the top-10 money winners, and top-10 players in the World Golf Rankings.
On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were victorious 16 times in 2005.
