Humana Military Outpost returns to host U.S. Service Members

LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Back by popular demand, the Humana Military Outpost returns to host active duty, Reserve, and military retirees at the 2013 Humana Challenge in partnership with the William J. Clinton Foundation at the Arnold Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST from Thursday, Jan. 17 - Sunday, Jan. 20.

Introduced during last year's inaugural Humana Challenge, the Humana Military Outpost is an expanded and exclusive hospitality pavilion located between the first tee and ninth green and offers its guests climate-controlled, indoor seating, outdoor patio seating overlooking the golf action, and complimentary food and beverages.

Veteran groups who would like to attend the Humana Military Outpost should have a representative contact Humana Challenge Tournament Services Manager Amanda Croteau at (760) 346-8184, ext. 269 or ACroteau@HumanaChallenge.com in advance to make arrangements for their group to attend. Space is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups must RSVP by January 7, 2013.

"We are proud to host members of our country's military at the Humana Military Outpost as our guests; they deserve the opportunity to have a fun and relaxing time with us while watching many of the world's best golfers up close," Humana Challenge Executive Director and CEO Bob Marra said. "The Humana Military Outpost is another way we are carrying on the legacy of our tournament founder, Bob Hope. His passion for this golf tournament and unwavering commitment to entertaining the troops were legendary."

Southern California military installations are encouraged to organize groups to attend the Humana Military Outpost. Complimentary transportation will be provided to, and from, PGA WEST on a first-come, first-served basis for organized groups.

In addition to the Humana Military Outpost opportunity, the tournament will extend free grounds admission to all active duty, Reserve, and military retirees with valid military identification, along with their dependents, throughout the week.

Military members and retirees should go online to www.HumanaChallenge.com/tickets and enter promo code "Military" (within the 'Humana Challenge Daily Tickets' section) to receive the special Humana Military Daily Grounds ticket (valid ID is required to gain admittance).

"We're excited to once again host military men and women at the Humana Military Outpost," said Mike McCallister, Humana's Chairman and CEO. "Humana's close connection to our Armed Forces dates back to the 1990s when Humana Military Healthcare Services was formed. Today, we're proud to administer health coverage for approximately 3 million active duty and retired military through the TRICARE program."

The Humana Challenge, which continues to honor and celebrate the legacy of Bob Hope, was named 2012 Sports Event of the Year by Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily.

The Humana Challenge has received playing commitments from defending Humana Challenge champion Mark Wilson, reigning FedExCup champion and World No. 10 Brandt Snedeker, and four-time major championship winner Phil Mickelson, who is active in military-related charitable endeavors such as Birdies for the Brave, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Homes for Our Troops.

The Humana Challenge is a four-round, 72-hole event featuring 156 PGA TOUR professionals and 156 amateurs, including celebrities. The first three rounds of the four-day tournament will be played in a pro-am format, with the pro-am teams consisting of one professional and one amateur playing in groups of four. The tournament's purse ($5.6 million) and winner's check ($1.008 million) are tied for the largest in event history.

Humana Challenge tickets (beginning at $30 with advance purchase), event and volunteer information, and registration for the Jan. 14 Couples Challenge Pro-Am and Jan. 16 Bob Hope Legacy Pro-Am is available at www.HumanaChallenge.com. Fans can connect to the tournament's sites on Facebook (www.facebook.com/HumanaChallenge) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/HumanaChallenge/@HumanaChallenge).

During the past 53 years, the tournament has generated more than $52 million in donations to charities in the Coachella Valley, primarily the Eisenhower Medical Center. The 2012 Humana Challenge announced record donations of nearly $2.1 million to local organizations.
