PHOENIX -- Australian golf club manufacturer Piranha Golf and LPGA legend Jan Stephenson are changing the face of golf, literally. As part of Piranha Golf's involvement with The Legends Tour and sponsorship of the upcoming ISPS Handa Cup scheduled for Nov. 2-4 at Orlando's Reunion Resort, Ms. Stephenson will be playing a limited edition driver, never seen before on the worldwide golf scene.
In keeping true to their Australian roots and in recognition of the contributions of the Aboriginal people to the heritage and culture of Australia, Piranha Golf has commissioned an Aboriginal artist to hand paint original artwork on some heads of its just-released Gelo-14 Titanium Drivers (420cc) reflecting the history of the Aborigines and what some call, the last great art movement ever discovered. This will be a continuous, though limited edition offering of the driver and images are available on the Piranha Golf website (www.piranhagolf.com) and via a link to its Facebook page.
Stephenson, who recently joined Team Piranha, has agreed to showcase the driver in the Handa Cup Pro-Am on November 2, and Piranha Golf is going to donate 10% of any sales achieved at the event to The Legends Tour's designated charity partner, The International Blind Golf Association. Beyond the Handa Cup, this driver will become a staple in Stephenson's bag.
"It's quite an honor to be associated with something so unique that visually represents much of the history of my homeland and what the Aboriginal people and their art means to all Australians," said Stephenson.
As part of Piranha Golf's connection outreach to the Aboriginal people, they are launching a program in Australia to identify one male and one female Aborigine golfer who will become club maker apprentices under the personal tutelage of Piranha Golf Chairman and Master Club Maker Antonio Gelonesi.
"As a proud Australian, and deeply respectful of Aboriginal people and their culture, Piranha Golf is delighted to be able to showcase artwork that speaks to that rich history and tradition. We believe that the integrity and brilliance of the artwork very much speaks to those same qualities evident in our golf products, and as the only remaining Australian golf club manufacturing company, that we can raise global awareness of the artwork in a sensitive and exciting way," said Gelonesi.
