The Gary Player Invitational series, "A Union of Golf and Giving," will take to Shanghai for its annual event in China on October 29 - 30. Proven to be one of China's premier charity events, the Chinese Gary Player Invitational presented by Coca-Cola continues to expand and exceed expectations year after year.
Now in its sixth year, the GPI returns to the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel and Shanghai Links for a star studded affair to benefit the Chinese Foundation for the Prevention of STD and AIDS. Funds raised from previous year's events have enabled support for over 5,000 AIDS-impacted children in the Yunnan province.
"We have been able to raise over $50 million since establishing The Player Foundation, and to know that these monies are going to make a real, beneficial difference in lives of needy children around the world is just wonderful," said Gary Player. "With our upcoming 6th event in China, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those participating."
A gala dinner and auction, hosted by Player, at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel will kick off the two day event with evening entertainment for a VIP guest list comprised of top international business leaders, celebrities, and golf professionals.
The pro-am golf tournament will follow at the internationally acclaimed, Gary Player-designed Shanghai Links Golf & Country Club on October 30. Player will host a pre-round clinic before the team scramble completion, where each Par-3 hole will be hosted by a professional golfer or celebrity.
An electric atmosphere will surround this year's event, as the GPI will be situated between the European and PGA Tour's two largest Chinese events - the BMW Masters in Shanghai and the WGC - HSBC Champions in Shenzhen.
"We are looking forward to the GPI event next week in Shanghai," said Marc Player, CEO of Black Knight International. "The generosity of participants and sponsors is astounding as it continues to grow year after year. Our continued relationship with Coca-Cola has led to special events that benefit a worthy cause in China."
Celebrating a decade-long partnership in 2012, Coca-Cola and the Black Knight are a gleaming example of a top philanthropic and business relationship that continues to impact and assist underprivileged children worldwide.
The 2012 Gary Player Invitational series will conclude in South Africa at the Zimbali Resort & Golf Club on November 22-25.

About The Player Foundation
The Player Foundation was established in 1983. What began as an effort to provide education, nutrition, medical care and athletic activities, for a small community of disadvantaged children living on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa has now blossomed into an organization that circles the globe bringing aid to underprivileged children and impoverished communities.
The Foundation is funded primarily by four Gary Player Invitational events presented through Black Knight International. Pairing celebrities and professional golfers from the PGA and Champions Tours with businessmen and international sports figures, the annual tournaments are staged in the United States, China, Europe and South Africa. The proceeds of these tournaments and other special events provide funding for an ever- expanding number of institutions around the world, including the Blair Atholl Schools in South Africa, the Pleasant City Elementary School in Palm Beach, the Masizame in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, and AIDS infected children in Baoshan, a drug-infested city located on the China-Burma border. Since its establishment, The Player Foundation has donated over $50 million dollars to the support of children's charities, the betterment of impoverished communities and the expansion of educational opportunities throughout the world.
Gary Player, acknowledged as a world class humanitarian, believes that the strength of our future depends upon the abilities of our children. "I have found that the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others does not thrust itself upon us," Player says, "But we do not need to look hard for it either. When you spot the chance to give back to the world, act on it. You will have made life better, for others, and for yourself."
The Gary Player Foundation is a non-profit 501 C (3) organization managed by Black Knight International in Palm Beach, Florida.
