Lansdowne Resort in Virginia adds staff to golf management team

Lansdowne Resort has announced the addition of two new members to the golf management staff. Jim Karafa has been named the director of club operations at The Golf Club at Lansdowne; and Arthur Foister has been named golf sales manager at Lansdowne Resort. Lansdowne is home to 45 holes of championship golf in Northern Virginia designed by Robert Trent Jones, II and Greg Norman. The golf operation is managed by Troon Golf, based in Scottsdale, Ariz.

"We have added two very talented golf professionals to our staff and each will be an asset to our club members, resort guests and multiple golf outings," said Lloyd Williams, the general manager at Lansdowne Resort. "We truly believe we have the finest golf operation in Northern Virginia, and adding two more PGA professionals with more than 30 years of collective experience in the golf industry will only enhance the golf product we offer to everyone."

Karafa is an accomplished PGA club professional with more than 20 years of service in operations and a successful history of working with members, owners and guests to ensure a quality golf experience.

Karafa arrived at The Golf Club at Lansdowne after serving most recently as the general manager and director of golf at the prestigious Hidden Creek Country Club in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Hidden Creek has been recognized as Golfweek's "America's Best Top 100 Modern Golf Courses in the U.S." and Golf Magazine's "Top 100 Courses in the U.S.". The Club has also been acknowledged by the GolfWorld Readers' Choice Awards as the #3 Private Facility in the United States for 2009 behind only Pine Valley and Augusta National..

Prior to his assignment at Hidden Creek, he was the general manager at a pair of Troon Golf managed facilities in Pennsylvania, including Concord Country Club near Philadelphia, and at Colonial Golf & Tennis Club in Harrisburg. Karafa did spend part of his career near Lansdowne Resort as he was the general manager and COO at Belmont Country Club for three years concluding in 2008. Earlier in his career, he served as the assistant golf professional at renowned Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Penn.

Karafa began his new assignment at The Golf Club at Lansdowne on October 15.

Foister possesses more than 14 years of experience in the golf sales industry. He has served in a variety of golf-related roles including director of golf at Magnolia Plantation Golf Club and Heathrow Country Club, both located in Lake Mary, Fla.; and as the head golf professional at the Marriott International Golf Club in Orlando. His golf sales experience spanned stints with Marriott, Waldorf Astoria, Hilton Orlando and Bonnet Creek, and Wyndham.

Foister will be responsible for increasing golf outing opportunities locally and regionally focusing on corporate, foundations and association events. Lansdowne has played host to hundreds of outings over the years including the Bobby Mitchell Hall of Fame Golf Classic, which just marked its 22nd annual event; and the James Brown and Michael Wilbon Celebrity Golf Classic, an event that just celebrated its tenth anniversary at Lansdowne Resort.

Foister is a PGA professional and a graduate of Golf Academy of America. He started his new role at Lansdowne Resort on October 1.
