England's Abbey Hill Golf Centre gives away free golf lessons

More than 150 shoppers received free golf lessons at the MK Centre last weekend courtesy of Abbey Hill Golf Centre's PGA Professionals.

Using an inflatable net for adult coaching and the colourful and fun Tri-Golf equipment for youngsters, the public pay-and-play facility's expert coaches were on hand to show everyone how easy and enjoyable it can be to get into golf.

Offering the prize of a free round at its excellent Pirate Island Adventure Golf Course, 130 youngsters entered a competition to play the 18-holes, festooned with obstacles from a huge shipwreck to crocodiles and cutlasses.

Continuing its tireless work of promoting the sport to young people, Abbey Hill is also giving potential champions of tomorrow the chance to learn all about the sport in special summer holiday coaching camps.

The facility's expert PGA Professionals will be staging three-day coaching camps and Friday Fun Days throughout the summer holidays for children of all ages and abilities to learn how to swing like Rory McIlroy, chip like Lee Westwood and putt like Luke Donald.

Each camp will be held from Tuesday to Thursday to be followed by the Friday Fun Day, which will conclude with a competition on the centre's outstanding nine-hole Par-3 course. Starting on July 31 with the final Fun Day concluding on August 31, they will utilise the extensive facilities at Abbey Hill - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator.

Children will use the centre's 21-bay covered driving range, practice putting green and Short Course, the ideal place for youngsters and beginners to take their first steps in golf.

Gordon Forster, Abbey Hill Golf Centre General Manager, said: "Children will be taken right through the basics of golf, including putting, chipping, iron play and woods by our team of expert teachers, who have experienced coaching all manner of players from toddlers swinging their first clubs through to elite county players.

"Our coaching camps offer children of all ages and abilities a fun and safe environment in which to learn all about golf."

On the last Sunday of every month Abbey Hill Golf Centre hosts a fun competition for junior golfers with a wide variety of prizes on offer.

Coaching camps will run from 10:00am until 1:00pm Tuesday to Thursday and will be staged on the following dates: July 31 - Aug 2; August 7-9; August 14-16 and August 28-30. The camps cost £20 for one day, £35 for two and £50 for three days.
