NEW YORK -- NBC Sports Group will present comprehensive coverage this week of the American Century Championship – the nation’s premier celebrity golf tournament – from Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nev. NBC Sports Network will air the opening round on Friday, 4-7 p.m. ET, with weekend coverage on NBC, 3-6 p.m. ET. Golf Channel will re-air the first-round on Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. ET, along with news, celebrity interviews and highlights on Morning Drive and its Live From Royal Lytham news shows.
SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT CELEBRITIES HEADLINE FIELD: More than 80 sports and entertainment stars are scheduled to compete, including Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Tony Romo, defending champion Jack Wagner, Ray Romano, Marshall Faulk, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Dancing with the Stars’ Tony Dovolani and winner of The Voice Javier Colon. The tournament also will feature first time players Jason Witten, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Skip Holtz, Mike Smith, Miles Austin, Alex Smith, Urban Meyer and actress Angie Everhart, an alumnus of Golf Channel’s fourth season of The Haney Project, which aired earlier this year.
TOURNAMENT BROADCAST TEAM: Host Bob Papa and analyst Roger Maltbie will anchor coverage from the 18th tower at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. They will be joined by tower reporter Gary Koch and course reporters Roger Maltbie and Dottie Pepper. Alex Flanagan will conduct celebrity interviews on the 17th tee.
GOLF CHANNEL NEWS COVERAGE: In addition to re-airing the first round on Saturday, Golf Channel will provide comprehensive news coverage of the American Century Championship. Golf Channel’s Win McMurry will provide live a report for Morning Drive, the network’s weekday morning show, on Friday. She also will conduct one-on-one interviews with many of the celebrities participating in the championship, airing all next week on Morning Drive (July 23-27). Highlights, interviews and leaderboard updates will air during Golf Channel’s Live From Royal Lytham news programming Friday-Sunday.
For the seventh year in a row, LIVESTRONG is the official charity of the American Century Championship. The tournament will help build awareness of the LIVESTRONG, while raising funds for its cancer survivorship initiatives.
