SAN DIEGO -- Sycuan Golf & Tennis Resort is hosting the world's top youth golfers for the Callaway Junior World Golf Tournament and the AJGA Genesis Junior Golf Championships on Sycuan's Oak Glen and Pine Glen courses. 54 countries and 42 US states will be represented during the week-long Callaway Junior World Golf Tournament, making it the largest international junior golf event and shining the international spotlight on Sycuan Resort.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Callaway Junior World Golf Tournament (July 7 - 13) will play Sycuan's Pine Glen course for the 7-8 year old girls division while the 11-12 year old boys division will play Oak Glen. Past Callaway Junior World Golf Tournament Champions, David Duval and Lorena Ochoa, each went on to be ranked number one PGA and LPGA-tour golfers.
"Each year, both of these magnificent tournaments produce stellar golf and instant classics," said Clint Higgins, Sycuan Resort's Director of Golf. "Sycuan is proud to be able to help these kids grow as golfers and give them a chance to pursue their dreams."
From July 30th to August 2nd, Oak Glen will host the AJGA Genesis Junior Golf Championships with 144 top youth golfers from around the globe to compete for the boys and girls junior golf title ages 12-18. Sycuan's three courses, Willow Glen, Oak Glen and Pine Glen have been recognized for the past seven years as San Diego's Favorite Golf Resort by the San Diego Union Tribune web site, SignOnSanDiego.com (now UTSanDiego.com).
"The courses are great and I really had an amazing time being at Sycuan Resort," said Corey Shaun, 2011 AJGA Genesis Junior Golf Champion. "The entire tournament was great and everyone who put it on did a perfect job of coordinating and helping all the junior golfers feel comfortable."
Sycuan's golf courses are home to over 260 events per year due largely because of the great course conditions and continuously warm climate. Located in the Sweetwater River Valley in eastern San Diego, Sycuan's resort is on 425-plus picturesque acres and is just 20 minutes from Downtown San Diego.
