Paula Creamer couldn't keep up when Annika Sorenstam made her move at the Samsung World Championship. While Sorenstam was going six under in the third round, Creamer only managed an even par 72.
And so Creamer's sophomore season flatline on the LPGA Tour continues. After four wins worldwide as a rookie, Creamer has gone winless this year. She'll play well one round, OK another, medicore in others. There is no one tournament where Creamer's put it all together in 2006.
And you know what?
Paula Creamer's still better than Michelle Wie. Today, tomorrow and likely forever.
While Creamer has gone through letdown adjustments of a sophomore slump that many pros in a number of sports experience, Wie has turned herself into a virtual punchline.
It's not just that Wie is winless in years of playing pro events now. It's the increasingly whiny excuses coming out of her own mouth.
We've heard a lot more about the Winless Wonders' endless string of "bad breaks" than about Creamer's wrist injury. One that had her wearing a brace to shield the strained ligaments.
"It definitely affected my summer," Creamer told the New York Times. "But those are things you have to overcome and deal with. I did a lot of rehab with it, a lot of wrist exercises, and it got better on its own."
Things you have to overcome ... imagine that. Sometimes it's not just those annoying Golf God dudes messing with you as Wie makes it seem tournament after tournament after tournament.
Paula Creamer is having an off year. And she's still moved even further ahead of Michelle Wie.
Who would have ever thought it?
