England's Burhill Golf Club members raise funds to help Scouts

Kind-hearted members of Burhill Golf Club, in partnership with Sunrise Senior Living of Weybridge, have raised in excess of £3,000 to help Hersham 1st Scout Group build a much needed new hut.

More than 100 golfers turned out for the annual Captains' Charity Day, this year staged by Ronnie Ingram and Lady Captain Susan Sadler, where teams of four compete in a Stableford format. The day was sponsored by Sunrise Senior Living of Weybridge, which in the four years since it opened has been home to more than 200 residents, and enjoyed close links with Burhill.

Three main prizes available on the day were for the top men's, ladies and mixed teams. It was the Men's Team winners of Mark Bissix, Steve Errington, Simon Bell and Mark Faulkner who amassed the most points on the day with a haul of 101.

The Ladies Team prize was collected by Sue MacArthur, Marie Pay, Helen Taylorson and Leslie Elliott, with 90 points, while the Mixed Team award went to Kathy Sevastopulo, James Hewetson, Chris Greet and Judith Greet with a score of 96 points.

Ronnie Ingram, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the support of the membership, Burhill and Sunrise Senior Living. The amount of money that we have raised will make a great difference to a very worthy cause and the 1st Scout Group of Hersham will be thrilled with this contribution, a big thank you to all those involved."

Director of Community Relations at Sunrise, Toby Speller, said: "We pride ourselves in playing an active part in the local community and were delighted to donate to the reconstruction of the Scout hut.

"Both the scouts and the golf club are pillars of this community and we are very happy to support them today and in the future."

David Cook, Burhill Golf Club General Manager, added: "Our members turn out in force each year for the Captain's Day and over the years have raised tens of thousands of pounds for various great causes, and this year was no different.

"It must be said that Sunrise Senior Living was extremely generous with their time and a £1,000 donation to help the cause."
