PGA Tour professionals Retief Goosen and Gary McCord took on all comers at the 2006 People vs. The Pros competition conducted earlier this fall at Pinehurst.
It will be aired Tuesday, Oct. 17 on ESPN2, from 7-9 p.m. (Eastern Time). For the third year, BASF is the title sponsor, while GCSAA is among a group of supporting sponsors. As part of the event, superintendents participated in a separate competition – the Superintendent Cup – for a chance to win prizes.
In addition to the play, the focus will also be on the golf course and the professionals who manage them. BASF’s promotion, both in advance and during the television production, features golf course superintendents as professional stewards of the golf facility. GCSAA and its members received extensive exposure through advanced publicity, on course signage, the airing of its television commercial, an interview with GCSAA CEO Steve Mona and a feature on golf course superintendents.
“This unique format has proven to be intriguing for the viewer and the participant,” Mona said. “It also provides a platform to recognize the key role GCSAA and its members play in terms of the success of the facility and the golfer’s enjoyment of the game. We are appreciative of BASF for its support of GCSAA members and its commitment to the profession.”
Celebrating its 80th anniversary, GCSAA is a leading golf organization, which has as its focus golf course management.
