Jim Brown Celebrity Golf Classic benefits Amer-I-can Foundation

MIAMI -- Arguably the greatest football player of all time, Jim Brown already has Hall of Fame members Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, Marcus Allen and soon to be Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith committed to his Jim Brown Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit the Amer-I-can Foundation. These legendary players are matched by a legendary course, the Blue Monster in Doral. Rounding out the crucial elements of the charity event, and making the tournament official, The Blue, a luxury resort hotel condominium being built adjacent to the course, has signed on to be the charity tournament’s title sponsor. The charity event is set for January 31st, 2007 in Miami, FL.

The golf scramble will start with a 1:00 pm shotgun, and the event will take place just a few days before the February 4th Super Bowl in Miami – creating the opportunity for an unsurpassable field of all-star players. Not only will Brown draw stars from the sports world but from Hollywood as well. A silent auction and draw party will commence the night before at The Blue sales center.

“The timing of this tournament is not a coincidence - the Super Bowl will bring a star-studded crowd to Miami, which will make our field of celebrity participants spectacular and help make the Classic a successful charity event for Amer-I-can,” stated Jim Brown, chairman of the Amer-I-can Foundation.

In 1988, Brown, a National Football League Hall of Famer and motion picture actor, founded the Amer-I-Can Program, Inc., a powerful life management skills and human development program designed to help anyone regardless of race, age, religion, gender or socio-economic conditions. It allows individuals to experience success by equipping them with the tools to overcome obstacles and achieve full potential. The Amer-I-Can Program emphasizes elevating self-esteem, achieving success through self-determination and creating an attitude change from “I-CAN'T” to “I-CAN.”

“When Jim Brown speaks people listen. He is a natural leader, which made him a success on the playing field and continues to help him succeed today with his fundraising and charity initiatives. We were honored that he came to us with the opportunity to support his Amer-I-can Foundation, and proud to partner with him for this worthwhile initiative. We are 100% on board with our full support,” stated Jerry Kaufman CEO and Chairman of the Kaufman Organization Inc., developer of The Blue.

More than 150 players are expected to participate and Brown hopes to raise $200,000 for the charity. This will be his first charity golf tournament, but based on the feedback he has already received, Brown is confident that it will become an annual tradition for many years to come and a successful fundraiser for Amer-I-can.

“The tournament is going to be a lot of fun for participants, but supporting the Amer-I-can Foundation is the focus. When I asked Jerry Kaufman and The Blue to endorse the tournament, he stepped up in a big way by taking on the sponsorship role and making the tournament a reality,” Brown said.

The Blue was also a sponsor of the 2006 PGA Ford Championship, where Tiger Woods successfully defended his title on the Blue Monster. This championship course was ranked as one of Florida’s top 20 courses by Golf Digest and its 18th hole (a 443-yard par-four) was ranked as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World by GOLF Magazine. Virtually every great name in golf has had a moment of glorious personal triumph on this world-class track. Next year, Doral’s Blue Course will host the WGC-CA Championship, one of four limited-field events, placing it behind only the majors and The Players Championship in the golf hierarchy.

The Blue broke ground this summer and will offer 240 exclusive, luxurious residences within approximately 18 months time. The resort hotel condominium will offer both owners and guests a haven of comfort providing relaxation, indulgence, luxury and of course, leisure pursuits with access to five championship golf courses. The Kaufman Organization is overseen by Chairman and CEO Jerry Kaufman, a fifth-generation developer. The company currently has three other developments in the planning stage, including “Regalia,” a 41-story, one residence per floor condominium opening for sales this Fall. Regalia will boast 6,000 square foot residences that will offer some of the finest finishes and amenities found in the world.
