Tiger Golf Gathering scheduled for December

Clemson, SC. – Nov. 16, 2004 – The second annual Tiger Golf Gathering, a unique fundraising celebrity Pro-Am event to benefit the Clemson University golf program, is scheduled to take place on December 9 & 10 at the Thornblade Club in Greenville, SC.

The Tiger Golf Gathering will begin at 11:00am on December 9 with the shotgun start of the Thursday Open, a "captain's choice" golf tournament open to the general public. Playing positions in the Thursday Open are $250 and include a round of golf at Thornblade, a Tiger Golf gift pack, plus two tickets to the Tiger Golf VIP Reception on Thursday evening. Interested players may register as individuals or in groups at www.TigerGolfGathering.com.

The Tiger Golf VIP Reception will be held Thursday evening in the main ballroom at the Thornblade Club where participants will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with numerous Clemson University golfing greats, including: Charles Warren, Chris Patton, Dillard Pruitt, D.J. Trahan, Lucas Glover, Jonathan Byrd, and coach Larry Penley. Other Clemson celebrities and dignitaries who have been invited to attend are: Tommy Bowden, Danny Ford, Terry Don Phillips, Steve Fuller, Dwight Clark, and Jim Stuckey, among others. Radio personality Mark Packer will serve as the master-of-ceremonies for the evening, which will feature live and silent auctions, entertainment, heavy hors d'oeuvers, and an open bar.

Auction items at the Tiger Golf VIP Reception will include autographed Tiger Golf memorabilia, airline tickets, golf outings at exclusive courses, and vacations to exceptional destinations such as the Grove Park Inn, Kiawah Island Resort, and Pinehurst Resort. One auction item that is sure to pique a lot of interest is a private concert by nationally known recording artist Edwin McCain!

On Friday, December 10 the Tiger Golf Gathering will culminate with a Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament at Thornblade featuring thirty former and current Clemson golfers. The Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament will pair a Clemson professional with three amateurs who will play in a modified "Texas Scramble" format. Pairings will be determined by lottery at the Tiger Golf VIP Reception on Thursday evening. The Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament is currently sold out and closed to the general public.

The idea for the Tiger Golf Gathering originated with former Clemson golfers Jonathan Byrd, Charles Warren, Ben Duncan, and Lucas Glover who wanted to create a way in which they and other former players could support the Clemson golf program. After a recent tournament planning meeting Charles Warren stated, "I am so proud that the Tiger Golf Gathering has become such a first-class event. The participants really have a chance to impact the future of Clemson golf. We are proud to announce that Budweiser of Greenville, oobe, Ping Golf, Ryan's Family Steakhouse, Wachovia NA, and IH Services have joined us as lead donors and we hope to add others soon." Two Lead Donor sponsorships remain available for $7,500 each. Lead Donors receive corporate signage at the tournament, six tickets to the Tiger Golf VIP Reception, three playing positions in the Pro-Am tournament, and a print of an original painting commissioned to celebrate Clemson golf.
