First ever "Missouri Golf Day" activities open to the public

Missouri announces the inaugural "Missouri Golf Day," October 11. This golfing extravaganza features Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member and Gateway PGA Foundation president, Ozzie Smith; and Joe Steranka, CEO of the PGA of America.

Missouri Golf Day open to the public — lots of free activities for anyone who wants to attend — no charge to watch the scramble-style golf tournament (there is a fee for players) — hone your game with a free golf lesson from a PGA certified professional — for kids, there is a free, after school golf clinic — no charge to try out the latest golf equipment — participate in other free golf-related activities, which are still in the planning stages. No reservations are necessary. You might win a prize, just for attending.

The Golf Tournament is open to everyone. Individuals and 4-person teams (coed) must register in advance. There's still time to sign-up; go to www.Industry.VisitMO.com; click the "Governor's Conference" tab; print the golf registration form; and fax the completed form to the phone-number given (no more mailed forms will be accepted). If you have questions, you may contact Shari Childs: Shari.Childs@ded.mo.gov.

Special announcement for tournament players: Win a 2012 Chevy Cruze, courtesy of Riley Chevrolet, in Jefferson City. How? Just score a hole-in-one, on a select hole, and drive away in a brand new car. Easy; anybody can do it.

Other dignitaries in attendance include Mark Passey, Director of Regional Affairs for the USGA; representatives from golf associations and courses across the Show-Me State; leaders from throughout Missouri's tourism industry; and elected officials.

Missouri Golf Day celebrates the game of golf in Missouri. This outstanding golf event is presented at

Jefferson City Country Club, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 11. The tournament gets underway with a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start.
