SemperComm fundraising tournament begins in Alexandria, Va.

SPRINGFIELD, Va. -- The SemperComm Golf Classic starts Friday, Sept. 15, at the Fort Belvoir Golf Club in Alexandria, VA. The event will raise funds for the SemperComm Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to supplying morale-boosting communications and entertainment equipment, software and services to small, overseas remote U.S. military bases.

The event is a four-person scramble tournament with a shotgun start. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., and the tournament starts at 2 p.m. Immediately following the tournament, a three combination putting contest, with a $10,000 grand prize, will be available to all participating golfers. Throughout the day, participants and their supporters may purchase raffle tickets to win any number of prizes, including a dinner for the following evening hosted by the non-profit organization Stars For Stripes, where the guest of honor will be former "JAG” actress Karri Turner. Dinner and an awards presentation will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Also participating will be a group of recent combat-wounded veterans, all of whom are currently receiving care at Walter Reed Army Medical Center or Bethesda Naval Hospital.
