Golf Academy of America San Diego campus visited by Congressman

Golf Academy of America (GAA), the largest and longest-running two-year golf career college in the world, welcomed Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) to their San Diego campus located in Carlsbad on Thursday, June 30. The congressman spent three hours at GAA as he toured the 20,000 square foot facility and addressed the student body of more than 250 aspiring golf professionals - about 20 percent of which are military veterans, many from the San Diego area, or Southern California.

Since 1993, the Mississippi congressman has served the second district in his home state and is also serving his third term as the Democratic Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

"I am very impressed with the amazing facility here at Golf Academy of America, but I am even more impressed with the passion each student here has for the game and the business of golf," said Rep. Thompson. "It is inspiring to assuring to know that the future of golf lies in the bright ideas and skills of these talent golf professionals."

"We are extremely honored to have hosteda United States Congressman on campus to address our students," said Rich Iorio, campus director. "Our entire student body was thrilled to meet the congressman and to show him our amazing facility. The congressman has a very busy schedule, but he wanted to visit because he knows our students have a passion for their future in the golf industry and that many of our students have served in the military before deciding to attend Golf Academy of America."

Thompson was joined during the visit by Avy Stein, chairman of the board of Education Corporation of America and Milton Anderson, president of Virginia College in Jackson, Miss.
