Feherty drives record-breaking numbers for Golf Channel

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The premiere of Golf Channel’s newest original series Feherty, hosted by veteran sports personality David Feherty, debuted Monday as the most-watched series premiere in the cable network’s 16-year history.*

Feherty, coupled with the lead-in Big Break Indian Wells, also fueled Golf Channel’s Monday prime-time lineup to its highest-rated, post-U.S. Open prime-time average on record.**

The Feherty premiere eclipsed the 2009 premiere of The Haney Project: Charles Barkley as Golf Channel’s biggest series debut to date. The series is Golf Channel’s first original series created since becoming part of the NBC Sports Group.

Described as “a cross between Oprah Winfrey and Johnny Carson” by The New York Times, Feherty conducts revealing interviews with some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment the 12-part interview series. The series also gives viewers a rare look inside the brilliant yet zany mind of David Feherty as he shares his unique stories and anecdotes about the sport and life in general.

Monday’s premiere episode featured a rare interview with golf hall-of-famer Lee Trevino as he discussed his rocky path to success, reflections on the 40th anniversary of his U.S. Open victory and the current state of the game. Upcoming episodes will include interviews with basketball hall-of-famer Charles Barkley, Academy Award-nominated actor Don Cheadle, and one of the greatest golfers of all-time, Tom Watson.

Feherty capped off Golf Channel’s strong U.S. Open Week, with ratings across the network up seven percent year over year, driven by a 62 percent increase in prime time. Led by its Live From the U.S. Open news program and Morning Drive, Golf Channel aired nearly 50 hours of live news coverage from the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. The network also aired programming throughout the week themed to golf’s second major championship of the year, including Grey Goose 19th Hole, GolfNow Washington D.C. and The Golf Fix.
