If you're looking for a pretty cool golf escape, here's a suggestion: travel to Central New York and check out Turning Stone Resort and Casino, former home of the Turning Stone Resort Championship on the PGA Tour.

The resort is home to three excellent golf courses that aren't your typical resort golf layouts. And by that I mean they're not easy, but they are excellently conditioned, beautiful and unique. Pair that with staying at the resort -- which offers luxury accommodations, a world-class spa, entertainment and casino gaming -- and you can put together a heck of a three- or four-day package.

Rick Smith designed Shenendoah Golf Club, which has a pretty cool wetlands/links look. Robert Trent Jones designed the most difficult of the three courses, Kaluhyat Golf Club. And Tom Fazio crafted the tour course, Atunyote Golf Club, which ironically is probably the most playable of the three. The fairways are more generous on Atunyote, and if the wind isn't blowing and the rough isn't too deep, there are plenty of opportunities to score.

In any event, there are several lodging options, either at the Tower, Hotel or the more luxurious Lodge, which offers modern, functional suites with a unique contemporary design. The resort also has several excellent restaurants, including the upscale Wildflowers Restaurant, which is located in the Lodge, or any number of specialty restaurants and lounges within the main casino building.
