Sorenstam wins 4th consecutive Mizuno LPGA Classic

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Nov. 11, 2004 – Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam matched yet another LPGA record on Sunday by recording her fourth consecutive victory in the Mizuno Classic in Shiga, Japan.

Demonstrating control of every part of her game, Sorenstam took apart both the Seta Golf Course and the field, shooting 22-under-par 194 for a 9-stroke win over a trio of runners-up. The victory, Sorenstam's seventh of the season, secured her seventh Rolex Player of the Year Award.

The triumph moved Sorenstam into a tie for fifth place with Betsy Rawls on the LPGA's all-time victory list with 55 official wins, and was her 67th worldwide title. In just 17 starts this year, Sorenstam has posted 15 Top 10 finishes. "Winning four in a row actually was a goal of mine," Sorenstam said. "When I think about it, it's quite an achievement. I'm very proud of it. I felt I played very well all week in all facets of my game. I drove the ball very well and my short game was really sound.
It was a great week."

As she has in all her 2004 starts, Sorenstam used the ERC Fusion Driver and HX Tour Golf Ball, giving that powerful driver-ball combination its 19th worldwide professional title since the two products were introduced late last year. In addition to her driver and golf ball, Sorenstam again utilized an impressive array of Callaway Golf equipment, including a Big Bertha Strong 4-wood and 7-wood, Steelhead X-14 Irons, 48-and 54-degree Callaway Golf Forged+ Wedges and an Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball Blade Putter. She also wore Callaway Golf Footwear featuring the Big Bertha Spike.

Sorenstam's dominance of the Mizuno Classic may be unparalleled in the annals of LPGA golf. In her four victories, which tied the LPGA record for consecutive wins at an event set by Laura Davies in 1994-97 at the Standard Register Ping, Sorenstam is a total of 74 under par in the 54-hole tournament for a stroke average of 65.9. Davies was 49 under par in her four wins at the 72-hole Standard Register Ping for a stroke average of 69.
