ORLANDO, Fla. -- The New Course at Grand Cypress -- a Jack Nicklaus-designed homage to St. Andrews course -- is this week's featured property at OrlandoGolf.com, the leading site for anyone planning to play golf in Orlando.
Grand Cypress is home to 45 holes of Nicklaus-designed championship golf. The New Course was added in 1988 in addition to the North, South, and East nines for a total of four different 18-hole courses.
Inspired by the birthplace of the game, Nicklaus created replicas of St. Andrews' most famous holes, including his own version of the infamous Road Hole. The traditional links design also features more than 150 bunkers, stone walls, and elevated tees. The greens are elevated as well and additionally, there are seven enormous double greens.
In a recent review of the New Course at Grand Cypress Resort, Katharine Dyson wrote that "Nicklaus has done a remarkably good job in creating a course ... that gives golfers a taste of what it might be like to play St. Andrews."
"If the Old Course in St. Andrews is on your bucket list but not in your travel plans, you might want to tee up at the New Course at Grand Cypress Golf Resort.
"Designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1988 and joining the North, South and East nines at Grand Cypress, also designed by Nicklaus, the New Course is crafted as a tribute to the Old Course.
"It's received many awards including: Golfweek Magazine's 'Americas Best Public-Access Courses for Florida,' 'America's Top 100 Resort Courses,' and Golf for Women Magazine's 'Top 50 Courses in America for Women.'"
