Golf Pride gets a grip on joint pain

LAURINBURG, NC. – Nov. 11, 2004 – Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation (NYSE:ETN) have announced that Golf Pride, manufacturer of the number-one golf grip for tour professionals, received the Arthritis Foundation’s Ease-of-Use Commendation to help arthritic golfers to get back in the game.

Golf Pride's Whisper and the Dual Durometer family of grips have received an Ease-of-Use Commendation for their ability to minimize the painful effects on joints while swinging a golf club. Golf Pride is part of the Golf Grip Division of Eaton Corporation, a diversified industrial manufacturer.

Most of the golfers with arthritis who participated in an independent review of the grips agreed that both grip styles helped relieve tension and joint pain and gave them better control over their club.

“In our continued effort to make the game of golf an accessible and enjoyable sport among players of all athletic abilities, we are pleased with the Arthritis Foundation Ease-of-Use program’s commendation for our Whisper and Dual Durometer grips,” says Jeff Fiorini, general manager for Golf Pride grips. “We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the Foundation and helping players around the country achieve their personal best.”

Early next year, Golf Pride and the Arthritis Foundation will announce efforts aimed at educating consumers with arthritis on the importance of an active lifestyle in the control and prevention of arthritis. Golf Pride also plans to roll-out packaging with the Ease-of-Use logo in retail locations nationwide.

“Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and affects nearly 70 million Americans,” says Dr. John Kippel, CEO of the Arthritis Foundation. “The goal of the Ease of Use Commendation program is to recognize products that are easy-to-use for people with arthritis and help them to maintain an active lifestyle.”

Whisper Grip:
The Whisper utilizes an innovative process combining a polyurethane overwrap for a soft, supple feel and a high grade underlisting that absorbs shock and helps maintain consistent grip performance. The Whisper is available in men’s, women’s, midsize, jumbo and several putter models.

Dual Durometer Grip:
The Dual Durometer is a high performance grip built of a two layer rubber construction. The firm inner layer optimizes control and feedback while the soft, high traction outer skin maximizes comfort and feel for optimum game enjoyment. The Dual Durometer is available in men’s regular and midsize.

Golf Pride also offers a variety of men’s, women’s, oversized, corded, specialty and putter grips. More information about additional items in the new 2004 lineup is available at www.golfpride.com.

About the Ease-of-Use Commendation:
The Arthritis Foundation created the Ease-of-Use Commendation to encourage manufacturers to design user-friendly products and packaging. Manufacturers submit their product(s) for testing by an independent lab experienced in the design and evaluation of products that are accessible to people with functional limitations due to the effects of arthritis. The products and packaging that receive a favorable review are listed on www.arthritis.org and carry the Arthritis Foundation Ease-of-Use commendation logo.
