BUCKINGHAM, Pa. -- Lookaway Golf Club, nestled within Bucks County's serenely beautiful countryside, is defined by its tranquility and dedication to an unparalleled golf experience. Now, according to Golf Digest Magazine, it also is defined as the 15th best golf course in Pennsylvania.
Golf Digest released its national rankings this month, which are determined by the magazine's national raters visiting golf courses and evaluating them on several criteria. The highest and lowest scores of the evaluations are discarded and the remaining scores are then averaged to determine the rankings.
"We have always known that Lookaway is special. From its original vision and design of the course, to its operations and membership today, it is distinguished by its quality. Now, to stand out among the many fine golf courses in Pennsylvania with Golf Digest ranking Lookaway as 15th Best statewide is quite an accomplishment," said Lookaway board president Harry Ferguson.
Golf Digest's evaluation criteria include: Shot Values, assessing the course's risks, rewards and length; Resistance to Scoring, assessing the course difficulty; Design Variety of the holes; Memorability, evaluating how the design features provide individuality to each hole, while a continuity to the whole course; Aesthetics, appraising the scenic value; Conditioning of the course; and Ambience, assessing how the overall feel and atmosphere of the course reflects and upholds the traditional values of the game of golf.
The 7,000-yard championship course was designed by nationally renowned golf course architect Rees Jones, who was recently named by GOLF INC to their list of the 15 most influential golf architects.
Lookaway encompasses 228 acres overflowing with rolling hills, wetlands and 100-year-old trees enhanced by carefully placed bunkers and rough areas, making it a delight to see and a challenge to play. The club features extensive practice facilities, spacious men's and women's locker rooms, active men's and ladies' golf programs, and a caddie program which is clearly exceptional.
Lookaway opened in 1999 on a site that dates back to the founding of the nation, and the golf club has retained the original buildings dating back to the early 1700's, preserving the area's historic roots with a spirit true to American traditions.
