AVENTURA, Fla. -- Marc Buoniconti and Stephanie Trump will be honored at the 8th Annual Bob Beamon Celebrity Golf & Tennis Classic gala on Thursday, October 19th, 2006, at the Marriott Hollywood Beach.
If courage is grace under fire, Marc Buoniconti ranks among the bravest men you will ever meet. A 1985 spinal cord injury left him unable to move a muscle below his neck, yet each day he moves people. Moves them to understand the tragedy of paralyzing SCI and to join him in finding its cure. The son of legendary All-Pro and Hall of Fame linebacker and former Miami Dolphin Nick Buoniconti; serves as Ambassador for the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and President of the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.
Stephanie Trump of the I Have A Dream Foundation in her position as president ensures that children in the inner city who enroll in the I Have a Dream program in second grade remain committed to staying on the right path in life. Students who stay in the program through high are guaranteed a college or vocational education.
“I am thrilled that both Marc and Stephanie have accepted the Beamonesque Award,” Bob Beamon said. “Both have made strong commitments to their individual fights. I admire what they have achieved and we are honored to have them at our function in October”
Previous recipients of this prestigious award include World Heavyweight Boxing legend, Muhammad Ali; Olympic 400-meter hurdler Edwin Moses; NFL Hall of Fame Member Jim Kelly; and NBA Hall of Fame member, Julius “Dr. J” Erving. All recipients have demonstrated outstanding lifetime commitment to children’s causes.
While the competition will be heavy on the golf course and tennis courts, the highlight of the two days is the gala on October 19th which will be hosted by master of ceremonies, the popular NBC6 news anchor, Tony Segreto.
The gala precedes the Bob Beamon Golf & Tennis Classic and Awards Luncheon which will be held on Friday, October 20th, at the prestigious Parkland Golf & Country Club. Individuals or teams are encouraged to participate and/or recognize the honorees with an ad in the Souvenir Program Journal.
The two-day event will feature worldwide celebrities including Julius “Dr. J” Erving, John Carlos, Wali Jones, Ickey Woods, Harvey Clayton, Fred Williamson, and Artis Gilmore to name a few. “We expect many more great athletes to join us for this event,” commented Beamon.
Proceeds from all the events will benefit the Bob Beamon Organization for Youth, Inc., a non-profit organization committed to the welfare and well-being of children by providing services to children in the underserved communities.

Today, the record still stands, and is the longest-held Olympic record in modern-day Olympic history. “Beamonesque” is term first coined by a sportswriter at the 1968 Olympics, and today, in addition to outstanding feats in athletics, “Beamonesque” stands for spectacular feats in education, the arts and service to one’s community.
