No. 2 in Buick Open used UST Proforce graphite shaft in driver

Finishing just three strokes behind the most dominant golfer in the world, the No. 2 player at the 2006 Buick Open used a Proforce graphite shaft in his Srixon W 506 driver (8.5°) to shoot an 8-under 267.

Enjoying a tremendous year with UST Proforce shafts, the 16-year PGA Tour veteran is currently No. 2 on the World Money List with almost $4.7 million, and earned nine Top 10 finishes (2nd on Tour). He has also racked up some stellar statistics, including second in scoring average, second in YTD earnings and fifth in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour.

Proforce popularity first exploded on the PGA Tour with its victory at 1999 Masters. This year, the Proforce brand continues to excite PGA Tour players with its introduction of the Proforce V2 line. Available in wood, hybrid and long drive models, the Proforce V2 utilizes a proprietary graphite fiber orientation in the mid- and butt-sections to enable the shafts to recover faster when loaded or flexed and to give the shafts a uniquely stable feel in the golfer’s hands. Combining unique fiber orientation with lower torque engineering, the V2 provides unparalleled stability and consistency, and balances the tip section to launch the ball higher with increased ball speed, while the optimized torque reduces spin for superior control.

The Proforce V2 plays with more feel in the hands and tip section than the Proforce Gold, and offers a slightly higher ball flight. The V2 also features low torque to help reduce twisting and transfer more energy to the ball for more power with less spin.

Buick Revs Up on Hybrids

Hybrids were more popular than ever at the 2006 Buick Open. No, we don’t mean the environmentally friendly vehicles in the parking lots. We’re talking ‘hybrid clubs’ — those utility clubs that have become essential weapons in almost every player’s arsenal.

At this year’s Buick Open, the number of hybrid clubs in play increased 40 percent from last year’s count. Of those, UST shaft usage in hybrid clubs was up 36 percent, one of the largest jumps by any golf shaft manufacturer.
