'The Road to the PGA Championship' debuts on CBS on Aug. 6

The Road to the PGA Championship, a one-hour special that follows a dream realized by 20 PGA Professionals who gained a berth in the Season's Final Major, debuts Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, on CBS Sports from 2 p.m.-3 p.m. EDT.

Narrated by CBS Sports' Bill Macatee, the "road" begins with the drama of the PGA Professional National Championship at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, N.Y., where 20 PGA Professionals competed in a 312-player field representing 44 states in June.

The low 20 scorers from the National Championship emerged to earn a berth in the 88th PGA Championship, Aug. 17-20, 2006, at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club.

The Road to the PGA Championship takes viewers to the home clubs of the PGA Professionals, exploring how those who can play the game at the highest level also devote their careers as teachers of the game, merchandisers, business leaders and parents.

Their stories span from the Heartland to the Bayou to each coast. In between, they each feature personal highlights from the PGA Professional National Championship.

The program will air four additional dates in Eastern Time on The Golf Channel: Saturday, Aug. 12, from 10:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 14 from both 4:30 a.m.-5:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.-7 p.m.; and also Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m.-10 a.m.

Celelebrating its 90th anniversary, The PGA of America was founded in 1916, and is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf, while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The Association is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game.
