Mark Hubbard, of Denver, Colorado, led a group of four individuals in securing spots to the 110th US Amateur in a sectional qualifier at Pasatiempo Golf Club Monday. Hubbard earned medalist honors at the famous Dr. Alister MacKenzie-designed course with a 36-hole total of 142.
Pasatiempo GC, which is ranked #11 in Golf Magazine's Top 100 Courses You Can Play (2008), was in pristine condition throughout the grueling 36-hole stroke-play event. The historic California golf course, which boasts panoramic views of Monterey Bay, provided a true test for US Amateur hopefuls as a scorecard of 145 or better was needed to qualify.
California residents Mac McClung, Ricky Stockton, and Cody Thompson, also qualified for next month's event with scores of 143 and a pair of 145's, respectively. The US Amateur will be held at Chambers Bay, site of the 2015 US Open. Chambers Bay is located in University Place, Washington and represents the first municipal golf course to host this prestigious championship.
