First ever pop-up golf course tees off in Adelboden, Switzerland

To be known as 'Golf Mountain', the pop-up course is currently under construction and will be open for just one month, from 10 September to 10 October 2010. Located on the Engstligenalp, a beautiful nature reserve with breathtaking views over the village of Adelboden, the course sits at 1,964 metres, making it one of the highest golf courses in Europe.

With a full 18 holes including a par 3 and a par 5, 'Golf Mountain' is sure to provide even the most skilled of golfers with a serious challenge, as well as lots of golfing fun. Golfers will have to contend with some rather unusual obstacles such as streams and rocky outcrops - perhaps even cows! - as well as swirling mountain winds and extreme weather conditions: one minute, golfers might be in bright sunshine, the next in dense cloud.

As a pop-up course, the only part that will be classically laid out will be the greens, which are being created using artificial lawn. To add to its authenticity, 'Golf Mountain' will feature a driving range and a traditional wooden Alpine hut at the heart of the course that has been converted into a clubhouse, complete with pro shop for renting clubs, changing rooms, cosy bar and rustic restaurant, serving local specialities such as fondue and raclette.

The Cambrian, a member of Design Hotels and the only Mr&Mrs Smith hotel in Switzerland, has created a golf package to enable guests to enjoy 'Golf Mountain' in style. The package includes two nights' B&B accommodation in a deluxe room, plus a four-course dinner on one night, two green fees, transfers to and from the hotel to the cable car that will take golfers up to the Engstligenalp, a sports massage and a small golf present.

Suitable for serious golfers who like a bit of fun as well as families keen on golf, prices start from CHF 689 (approx £430) per person single occupancy and from CHF 509 (approx £315) per person for those sharing a double room. To make a reservation, call +41 (0) 33 673 83 83 or e-mail info@thecambrianadelboden.com.
