Chenxiao Duan ties record at Trader Joe's Junior Championship

Chenxiao Duan of Beijing, China, shot 61 and tied the AJGA's 18-hole scoring record during the second round of the Trader Joe's Junior Championship hosted by Pat Hurst (Castlewood Country Club - Pleasanton, Calif.). Only one other player has shot a 61 in the AJGA's 33-year history - James White at WindStone Golf and Country Club in Ringgold, Ga. (2007 Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic).

Duan needed just 23 putts during his 9-under-par round, which included 10 birdies and one bogey.

"Tying the record is great, I have never shot this low before" Duan said. "The AJGA is one of the best golf associations so to tie one of its records is amazing."

A recent graduate of the Pendleton Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Duan is 8-under-par for the tournament and will carry a four-shot lead into Thursday's final round.

"This is my last AJGA event so this tournament means a lot to me," said Duan, who has signed with UC-Irvine. "It would mean a lot to end on a win and take that confidence into four years of college golf."
