ORLANDO, Fla. -- Since Golf Channel’s June 9 launch of a consumer initiative honoring the untold stories of golfers who live by the spirit of the game, stories of inspiration, passion and beating the odds have been submitted in hopes of getting the opportunity to have his/her story told on the network’s popular series, Golf in America.
The online promotion, titled Into the Heart of Golf in America, continues to run through Aug. 31 and allows viewers to submit unique stories of devotion to golf and how the game has impacted their lives in a 100-word essay. Photos and videos can support any essay.
Twelve weekly winners throughout the course of the promotion will each receive a Golf Channel Prize Pack, including Golf Channel-branded gear and travel bag. The grand-prize winner will have his/her story featured on a future Golf in America episode, and will receive a 3-night/4-day trip to Orlando for two, $500 spending cash, a Golf Channel studio tour and a round of golf with a Golf Channel on-air personality.
An Into the Heart of Golf in America micro-site (www.golfchannel.com/MyGolfInAmerica) serves as the headquarters for the campaign, explaining rules and how to enter. Entries appear on an interactive map of the United States with other viewer submissions and stories from the 2009 season of Golf in America.
Hosted by film and television actor Anthony Anderson (Law & Order, Transformers), Golf in America travels throughout the country to discover unique stories in golf. Stories featured this season include a look at the career highs and lows of PGA TOUR player Notah Begay and his influence in bringing golf to his Native American community; how a Philadelphia reformatory school’s golf program is helping troubled youth; a candid discussion with former CBS golf commentator Ben Wright, who was fired in 1996 over inflammatory remarks he allegedly made about female golfers; and a visit with Errie Ball, at 99, the only living player from the first Masters tournament in 1934. Golf in America airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
