President Barack Obama has reportedly played 39 rounds of golf since his presidency began.
Thirty-nine rounds of golf since January of 2009 means that in about 18 months, he tees it up about twice a month. Do you play twice a month? Or does that 9-to-5 cubicle job and family keep you busier than the President of the United States?
Golf.com and the National Golf Foundation surveyed American golfers and found that in 2009 we averaged about 46 rounds per year (though retirees and others without full-time jobs probably inflate that number). So Obama is playing just a shade less golf than ordinary civilians. Click here for Golf.com's full survey results.
If you haven't been playing as much as the President, it's time to get your priorities in order. Check out this statistic from the U.S. Labor Department, which surveyed time use:
On an average day, nearly everyone age 15 and over (96 percent) engaged in some sort of leisure activity, such as watching TV, socializing, or exercising. Of those who engaged in leisure activities, men spent more time in these activities (5.8 hours) than did women (5.1 hours).
So if you're an average American, a two-hour, nine-hole round of golf gives you three hours to watch TV and drink beer. Make it happen at least as much as the President, it's the American thing to do. So book a tee time or plan a golf vacation and wipe the dust off that golf bag.
