I've been a logo ball collector almost all my golfing life, but I've never been satisfied with how to display all my white dimpled treasures from around the world.

Buying boring golf ball displays from retailers just didn't cut it for balls from Pebble Beach to Ballybunion. I've banished those ugly things to a closet, waiting for eBay.

And even after paying good money to a friend to build a mammoth wooden display holding nearly 600 balls didn't solve the problem. That monstrosity just comes off as overkill.

A chance meeting with Tom Greenia at the Michigan Golf Show in February must have been destiny on my quest for a solution. Greenia is revolutionizing the market on golf ball displays. In January, his Greenia Custom Woodworking company in tiny Reese, Mich., started designing and manufacturing cool new golf ball display cases in the shape of all 50 states.

I now have a display shaped like Michigan's lower peninsula hanging in my home. I can proudly display course logo balls where they belong on the map. Each ball now has a context, a home. The display tells its own story - where I've played and where I need to - without saying a word.

A ledge at the bottom holds the most special balls, like the one signed by golf legend Billy Casper.

Greenia's company also sells plaques celebrating hole-in-ones and eagles, but he expects these to be his best-selling golf product.

"They have been received great by customers," Greenia says. "Everybody who has bought one loves it. They say that it is friendlier on the eyes (than other ball displays). You can explain to people where you've played (by showing them)."

His wood displays come in cherry, oak or black backgrounds with each state covered by green felt. Each one costs $105, including white tees to hold the balls in place and shipping to some locations. Depending on the size of your state, the displays hold between 75 to 150 balls.

Greenia even crafted a custom-made piece of the continental United States for a customer at the Midland Golf Show. He says any request to build one can be shipped within a week.

Maybe someday I'll need him to create a world map for balls from Turnberry, Fancourt Links, Cape Kidnappers, Royal Melbourne, Royal Birkdale, Valderrama, Highland Links and beyond. A man can dream, can't he?
