Big Break alum Tommy Gainey captures first Nationwide Tour title

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Big Break alum Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey captured his first Nationwide Tour title by one stroke on Sunday at the Melwood Prince George's County Open in College Park, Md.

Gainey, a past Big Break champion (Big Break VII: Reunion), is among several Big Break alumni who have found success on the professional circuit following their appearance on Golf Channel's popular reality series. James Nitties and Matt Every (Big Break: Mesquite) are competing full-time on the PGA TOUR and have posted top-10 finishes this season, while Kristy McPherson (Big Break VI: Trump National, runner-up at Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2009, was a member of the successful U.S. Solheim Cup team as a rookie on the LPGA Tour. Several previous female contestants also have competed full-time on the LPGA Tour in recent years.

Gainey is not the only Big Break contestant to capture a professional victory in 2010. In May, 23-year-old Ryann O'Toole won her first professional tournament at the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship on the Duramed FUTURES Tour. O'Toole will be one of the 11 contestants competing on the newest season of Big Break, Big Break Sandals Resorts, premiering June 21 at 9 p.m. ET. Taking place at Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma, Bahamas, Big Break Sandals Resorts will showcase a field of 11 women - nine currently play on the Duramed FUTURES Tour - competing against each other in an attempt to make their lifelong dream of playing alongside the world's top golfers a reality. The series will include a preview show Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET to introduce the contestants, the challenges and the drama that will ensue in the 10-week series.
