Grayson Murray has two more years until he graduates from Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, NC. Earlier this spring he committed to play collegiate golf at Wake Forest University upon his graduation in 2012. Last weekend he competed in one of the few junior tournaments that provide the winner with an exemption to play in a PGA Tour sanctioned event, The REX Hospital Open Junior Invitational, presented by the Tarheel Golf Foundation Junior Tour. Murray beat a field of 76 players. The event was played over the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University and the TPC Wakefield Plantation courses in Raleigh, NC. Murray shot scores of 69-67 to win by one stroke over Logan Harrell who is headed to play at South Carolina next fall. Third place went to Gregory Bunner who will play at Western Carolina next year.

Many Tarheel Golf Foundation Junior Tour members will be watching closely to see how the 16 year old, Murray compares to the touring professionals. The Tarheel Golf Foundation Junior Tour is one of the only junior golf tours that have PGA Nationwide Tour exemptions to offer its players. The organization's membership includes most of the top ranked players in North Carolina as well as many other nationally ranked players. Preparations are already underway for the 2011 REX Hospital Junior Invitational where another young player will earn an opportunity to play in a Nationwide Tour event.
