LAS VEGAS -- Henry's Place (www.henrysplace.org), a non-profit organization formed in 2006 to honor Metro Sgt. Henry Prendes who gave his life protecting his hometown community, will host the 4th Annual Henry Prendes Charity Golf Classic at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010. The tournament will be held at Black Mountain Golf & Country Club (www.golfblackmountain.com) in Henderson.
Proceeds from this year's event will be allocated for building cabins at the new camp facility and also lend support to send underprivileged children to camp. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Injured Police Officers' Fund (IPOF) on behalf of the 2009 LVMPD Fallen Officers and their families.
This year's tournament welcomes back the participation of golf pros Mike Dobbyn, who holds the Guinness Book of World Records' Long Drive record of 551 yards; and Debbie Dahmer, Golf Channel's "Big Break III" contestant. To kick off the day's activities, a Metro Search & Rescue Police Helicopter will take to the sky to drop "Golf Balls from Heaven," followed by a special tribute to the 2009 LVMPD Fallen Officers.
"Before Henry's death, we had the desire to start a camp for underprivileged youth," said Dawn Prendes, Henry's widow. "Through the continually generous support of our community, I was able to purchase a 14-acre parcel of land in the foothills west of Cedar City, Utah, which is now in the beginning stages of developing into the permanent home of Henry's Place. We plan to bring children from our Valley to Henry's Place for a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
February 1, 2010 marked the four-year anniversary of the death of Sgt. Henry Prendes. At the time of his death, Sgt. Prendes was the first Metro Police Officer killed in the line of duty in Las Vegas in 18 years. His legacy has come to life; however, through Henry's Place Foundation, a 501©(3) organization his widow, Dawn, created to honor his contributions to the community.
Individuals can register for $175 and foursomes are $600 (a portion of the registration fees are tax deductible). The tournament is open to all ages.
