TRUCKEE, Calif. -- Better golf is just a short commute from almost anywhere in Northern California or Northern Nevada. The Golf Academy at Old Greenwood, Northern California's finest golf learning program, opens for its third year on Friday, May 14 offering one, two and three-day golf schools, private lessons, junior instruction and much more.
"When selecting a golf school to attend, it's certainly nice to have a fabulous vacation destination (like Lake Tahoe), but great instruction is always the key to a successful golf school experience," said Keith Lyford, director of instruction. "With Northern California's finest teaching facility, all the latest technology, a proven curriculum and an experienced teaching staff, there's no better choice than The Golf Academy at Old Greenwood."
Serious competitive junior golfers will find a results-driven program at The Academy's five-day Junior Camps, specifically designed for 13-17 year-old golfers. Each player's game is evaluated using the latest golf analysis technology. Then a customized improvement plan is developed for each golfer. Those who aspire to play high school, collegiate or professional golf now have a program to meet their needs. Camps are co-ed and are taught by Academy instructors, including Keith Lyford. Two sessions are available: June 21-25 and July 19-23.
Keith Lyford, director of instruction at The Academy, has been head instructor for some of the country's most-respected golf schools and is one of GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Teachers. He is a former PGA Tour player and a member of the Titleist Professional Advisory Board.
In addition to professional teaching instructors, the use of advanced teaching technology is an integral component to learning golf. Using the V1 four-camera system, Academy instructors evaluate swings on a split-screen, comparing golfers' swings to one of over 500 Tour Pros. The video, analysis, commentary and suggested at-home drills are stored online for anytime viewing.
Clinics are three-hour sessions that offer individualized attention in a small group setting. Topics include New Golfer; Full Swing Tune-Up; Scoring Shots; The Art and Science of Putting; How to Drive with Power and Accuracy; and Drive for Show, Putt for Dough.
Corporate Sessions give business professionals the skills needed to improve their game and to increase business interaction. In particular, The Art of Business Golf half-day school teaches golfers to feel comfortable on the links in order to not miss any networking opportunities. In addition, they'll learn tips on how to confidently navigate a successful business golf game or tournament. In today's economic climate, this program is an invaluable career investment.
One-, Two- and Three-Day schools are also offered. Comprehensive programs have a low student-to-instructor ratio and are held in the school's private teaching facilities. Packages include complimentary play after hours (cart included), an instruction handbook and lunch. One-day programs are $495; two-day programs are $895 and three-day programs are $1250.
The Golf Academy at Old Greenwood is a 15-acre training complex that includes a 1,500 square foot learning center equipped with an indoor/outdoor hitting bay, flat-screen TVs, lockers, club storage, a fully-staffed reception area and high-speed internet access. Its outdoor classroom consists of two large all-grass tees and a five-acre short game facility, with several greens for putting, chipping and sand play.
Club fitting is also an integral part of the performance formula. Properly fitted equipment, based on each golfer's physique and swing, can add yards and lower strokes.
Another facet to a quality golf game is physical fitness. In-house fitness expert, Mark Tedsen, is a certified Titleist Performance Institute golf fitness trainer, as well as a licensed and practicing Physical Therapist. Tedsen helps students identify any physical limitations that may be affecting their swing. His fitness programs focus on moving efficiently to prevent injuries and increasing power, accuracy and consistency.
