SEATTLE -- This year’s US Women’s Open showcased women’s golf at its finest, consummating in a playoff showdown between two Cutter & Buck sponsored athletes, winner Annika Sorenstam and second-place finisher Pat Hurst.
For Sorenstam, the win marked a major personal victory as her as her 10th major and third US Women’s Open, a landmark 10 years after her last title win in 1996, which followed her first in 1995. Sorenstam’s victory at Newport ties her with three other players for second-most Open titles and only one other has won more women’s majors.
Since entering the LPGA in 1995, Hurst has four career titles under her belt including one major, the Nabisco Dinah Shore Tournament, which she won in 1998. At Newport, Hurst played solidly all week, and seemed to be in a good position to capture consecutive U.S. Junior Girls, U.S. Women's Amateur and U.S. Women's Open titles. She had made 16 birdies through four rounds of regulation, by far the most at Newport, but she was overcome by Sorenstam in last 18 holes of tournament play.
“Annika and Pat’s passion for the game was evident by their tenacity and focus during this challenging tournament,” said Ernest Johnson, CEO of Cutter & Buck.
Sorenstam looked and played smart in a Cutter & Buck polo CB DryTec™ Balance Mock and the Stephanie short from her namesake Annika Collection. Hurst donned a Cutter & Buck CB DryTec™ Birdseye Polo paired with Claire Shorts.
