OKLAHOMA CITY-- Gaillardia Country Club has been named one of LINKS Magazine's Premier Clubs of 2010, recognizing the best in American golf. Acknowledged as one of the best golfing experiences in the country, Gaillardia joins other prestigious golf clubs, including Dallas National, The Vintage Club and The Loxahatchee Club, among others.
"LINKS Magazine is one of the most respected golf publications in the country, particularly for purists who love the game," said Phil Herrington, CEO of Gaillardia's parent company, Herrington, Inc. "We are very proud to have such a young course recognized as one of the premier golf clubs in the country. It is an honor for our members, our dedicated staff and for our founders, OPUBCO Communications Group."
Since opening in the summer of 1998, Gaillardia has continued to garner national attention, from hosting Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, featuring match play between Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples, to hosting the site of back-to-back Senior Tour Championships in 2001 and 2002. In addition to being recognized by LINKS Magazine, Gaillardia also has been recognized this year as one of Golfweek magazine's best residential courses of 2010.
"In Premier Clubs, we have tried to tell the stories of some of the best golf clubs in the country," said Hunki Yun, editor of LINKS Magazine. "We are happy that we were able to help our readers learn more about the quality of clubs like Gaillardia, which offers a first-class experience, both on and off the course."
Originally designed by Arthur Hills, Gaillardia was updated by 1992 U.S. Open Champion Tom Kite in 2004. The redesign maximized Gaillardia's natural beauty while presenting challenges to every level of golfer. Kite also designed the Gaylord Learning Center, a state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor practice facility featuring an expanded practice range and short-game facility. Modeled after the practice facility at Augusta National, Kite has created a learning center that attracts everyone from Gaillardia members to PGA Tour professionals.
"Tom and his team have done a great job keeping the integrity of the original design while adding subtle changes and beautiful features that also create a wide range of strategic decisions for members and their guests," Herrington said. "I've worked with many golf course architects, and Tom is one of the most creative people I've ever been around."
Gaillardia was founded by OPUBCO to offer a private club and residential community of national quality. The club features one of the most spectacular clubhouses in America and a gated community second to none, featuring lakes, waterfalls, trails and parks.
"Our members are accomplished men and women with high standards," Herrington said. "This recognition by LINKS is a reflection of our members as much as anything else."
Gaillardia offers residential, local and national golf memberships to accommodate both local and national golf enthusiasts. For more information about Gaillardia Country Club, visit www.gaillardia.com.
