BELLE MEAD, N.J. -- Mattawang Golf Club is hosting the New Jersey Section Playing Ability Test (PAT) for its second consecutive year. Mattawang's classic course will challenge a field comprised of talented individuals in the PGA Professional Management Program. Mattawang also will host three other PAT events on April 14th, May 19th and June 23rd.
Mattawang Golf Club, the semi-private club situated in New Jersey's prestigious Montgomery Township, is where Jack Nicklaus continues to hold the course record of 66. Aspiring golf course professionals will play two rounds at Mattawang seeking the next requirement level of their PGA Professional Management Program. According to the New Jersey PGA Section, fewer than 20% of those taking the test achieve a passing score.
Becoming a Professional Golf Association (PGA) member requires several steps. It begins with an apprenticeship, followed by the PGA Professional Golf Management Program and its Qualifying Test, the PAT and other checkpoints.
"We always enjoy hosting this kind of special event to test the skill level of potential and hopefully future PGA Professionals," said Mahlon Dow, Mattawang manager and head professional. "New Jersey has some outstanding club professionals and I look forward to seeing some new talent at the Playing Ability Tests here this season."
Mattawang Golf Club is located an hour from Manhattan and Philadelphia, under an hour's drive from Newark and an hour and twenty minutes from Westchester County. Directions and club details can be found at www.mattawang-golf.com.
