Cuts Fitness half-hour workouts helping golfers power their drive

MADISON, Wisc. -- Local fitness center officials say that more and more recreational athletes are looking for quick exercise programs to give them the energy they need to continue the physical activities they love.

According to Ken Kaiser, owner of the two Madison Cuts Fitness For Men in Middleton and Monona, which are two of over 100 Cuts Fitness centers in the country that provides 30-minute workouts, said that many of his members play Golf.

"These guys aren't looking for the big muscles," Kaiser said. "They're looking at building strength, flexibility and building their core muscles to get the power they need to drive the ball down the fairway."

Ken Foster, a club member and avid Golfer said, "I may never play as well as Phil or Tiger but since I started working out at Cuts Fitness my strength and stamina has improved so much that I am playing at my highest level ever."

"You're not 18 forever. As you get older, you lose your endurance and flexibility. But athletes will often discover that they're out of shape before someone working a desk job would find out," according to Kaiser. "Athletes will progressively get more tired doing what they love as they get older, and they realize quickly that they need to get into shape," he said.

"One of the things that I've noticed with a majority of the members is that their shoulders are a little slumped over when they first come in," Kaiser said. "After working out, they're standing up taller. Just the fact that they're standing taller—believe it or not—gives them the sense of strength and power, and it boosts their confidence."

Many recreational athletes don't want to dedicate their spare time to a gym. They'd rather be out playing their sport. According to John Gennaro, founder of Cuts Fitness For Men, over 90 percent of American men don't workout on a regular basis. Kaiser said he feels that today's fast-paced world doesn't allow much time to exercise.

"A lot of these Golfers work full-time," Kaiser said. "So they go to work, then they go home to their families and they don't have time to increase their strength other than the weekend 18 holes. They don't have the time, and so the half-hour workout we offer enables them to get the strength to go out there and drive the ball and not spend a lot of time in the gym."
