Nicklaus helps to celebrate opening of Peninsula's course in Del.

MILLSBORO, Del. -- Jack Nicklaus entertained members, media and invited guests with an exhibition round of golf at The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay, a luxury gated residential resort. Nicklaus explained his vision for the design at the official grand opening of The Peninsula Golf & Country Club, Delaware’s first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Nicklaus was joined by children from The Children’s Beach House, a charitable organization with an ongoing connection to The Peninsula, dedicated to helping children with special needs and their families.

Nicklaus, along with Larry A. Goldstein, president of Odyssey Development and developer of The Peninsula (in partnership with LM Sandler & Sons), held a press conference for media. A warm-up clinic from Nicklaus for invited guests followed. Nicklaus then christened the 18-hole championship course with a ceremonial tee shot and played his Signature Course. A reception immediately followed.

The Peninsula boasts an 18-hole, members-only, environmentally sensitive course that runs through each of the resort’s nine neighborhoods, including seven holes that hug the pristine waterfront along Indian River Bay and Lingo Creek. Managed by Troon Golf®, the leader in upscale golf course management, amenities include a practice range, putting green and short-game practice area, Golf Shop and Terrace Grille restaurant.

When completed, The Peninsula will include over 1,400 residential units, ranging from luxury condominiums to custom homes, as well as a $40 million amenity package, including a clubhouse scheduled to open in 2008. The Peninsula will feature luxurious full-service club activities, such as a wave pool, tennis courts and day spa. Membership to The Peninsula Golf and Country Club is available only to homeowners within the development.

The Peninsula on the Indian River Bay is Delaware’s first private gated, luxury residential golf resort, set on nearly 800 acres and surrounded by water on three sides. The centerpiece of The Peninsula is Delaware’s first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, managed by Troon Golf. The heart of the community will be the Lakeside Village Center with casual dining, a gourmet market, as well as a host of facilities for the active-minded, including two pools, a wave lagoon with water slide, a state-of-the-art athletic club and spa, and a tennis center. When completed, The Peninsula will include more than 1,400 residential units ranging from luxury condominiums to custom homes. The developer is Peninsula at Longneck, LLC, a joint venture between Larry Goldstein of Odyssey Development Group, McLean, VA, and Steve and Art Sandler of L.M. Sandler & Sons, Inc., Virginia Beach, VA. To learn more about The Peninsula visit www.peninsuladelaware.com.
