GDI snares wood shaft count at PGA Tour's Booz Allen Classic

SAN DIEGO -- Graphite Design International (“GDI”) — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver shaft models on the PGA TOUR — today announces that its YS-6 shaft led the wood shaft model count at the Booz Allen Classic, according to the Darrell Survey.

A total of 21 YS-6 shafts were in play at the Booz Allen as players utilized the popular shaft in drivers and fairway woods. In addition, the company’s YS-7 model ranked highly with 18 shafts in play. Nine top-13 finishers at the Booz Allen played GDI shafts, including the soon-to-be-released Pershing.

“GDI shafts continue to prove their merit on the PGA TOUR, where players rely on them to produce outstanding and consistent results,” said Akio Karashima, CEO of GDI. “The world’s best players are not the only ones who benefit from the superior accuracy and distance built into every GDI shaft – weekend golfers can realize great progress as well.”

On the Japan Tour, the winner and runner-up at the Mizuno Open played GDI shafts, while GDI led the graphite shaft brand count with 154 shafts in play.

Last year, GDI shafts were used by 18 winners on the PGA TOUR and 42 winners worldwide, helping them amass more than $75 million in earnings. They were also played by PGA TOUR leaders in Total Driving (distance plus accuracy), five of the top-10 players in Driving Accuracy Percentage, four of the top-10 money winners, and top-10 players in the World Golf Rankings.

On the Japan Tour, GDI shafts were victorious 16 times in 2005 and have been the most-played brand for a staggering 116 straight tournaments, an unprecedented streak dating back to 2002.
