ORLANDO, Fla. -- Golf Channel Am Tour, the largest amateur golf tour in North America, is set to tee-up its 2010 season with the 7th annual Duel in the Desert, Feb. 4-6, in Mesquite, Nev. The 54-hole tournament - sold out with a full field of 256 participants - continues the momentum of growth the Tour has sustained since 2007, when Golf Channel became title sponsor. In early 2009, Golf Channel assumed full management, marketing and operational control of the Tour.
Over the past three years, the Golf Channel Am Tour has experienced remarkable growth with membership increasing from 3,500 to more than 5,000 members, local chapters throughout North America expanding from 39 to 60 and the number of local tournaments increasing from 550 to more than 800 in 2009. Participation in the season-ending National Championships has more than doubled since 2006, highlighted by the more than 1,200 members who competed at the 2009 National Championships in La Quinta, Calif., headlined by the famed PGA West Golf Club.
As the largest amateur golf tour in North America, the Golf Channel Am Tour is open to the public and provides the most professional tournament experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as offering unparalleled access to some of the most renowned and challenging golf courses across the country.

Each year, thousands of amateur golfers are able to compete at a wide range of elite courses through the Golf Channel Am Tour, including PGA West, TPC Sawgrass, PGA National, Barton Creek, Innisbrook, Kingsmill and The Greenbrier to name a few. Currently, the Tour conducts more than 800 local championships nationwide, culminating annually with the National Championships. The 2010 National Championships, a 72-hole stroke-play competition that determines the National Champion in each of six flights in senior and open divisions, will be hosted in September 2010 by TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course (home of THE PLAYERS Championship) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The Web site also includes a player handbook outlining Tour policies and eligibility requirements to qualify for the 2010 National Championships.
Duel in the Desert marks the start of the Golf Channel Am Tour's highly-anticipated 2010 season. Players from across the country will compete in two-person teams during a 54-hole competition at some of Mesquite's leading golf courses, including Falcon Ridge, The Palms, and The Canyons, while staying at the world-class host resort CasaBlanca Resort Hotel and Casino. The 7th Annual tournament will take place Feb. 4-6 and consist of scramble, modified alternate shot and best ball formats.
