POCONO MOUNTAINS, Pa. -- The Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau, Inc. announces the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort opened its nine-hole Tillinghast Approach Golf Course on June 14. This is the first lighted course in the area’s 20-course golf cooperative /Pocono Mountains//: Discover Golf’s Great Destination Secret./
Situated on the lush grounds of the resort – including the 27-hole championship golf club with nine holes which were originally designed by legendary golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast – the Tillinghast Approach Course (TAGC) offers first-come, first-serve playing opportunities.
The TAGC offers novice golfers an opportunity to build confidence and develop their skill while providing more experienced players a chance to fine-tune their short game. Each of the nine holes are modeled after the greens and bunkering from other famous Tillinghast designs including Winged Foot, site of this week’s U.S. Open Championship, Baltusrol and San Francisco Golf Club.
“The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort is honored to offer all of our guests activities they can enjoy – from avid to beginner golfers, we’ve got a golf option for everyone, as well as many amenities for non-golfers,” says Steve Taggart, Shawnee Director of Golf. “With the opening of our new, lighted Tillinghast Approach Course, now instead of going to dinner and a movie, locals and guests can enjoy dinner and golf.”
The first tee time is 5:30 pm and the last at 9:30 pm. Because of the course’s cozy length – 682 yards – only walking is allowed. The midweek rate is $12 per person and weekend rate is $15, with 50 percent off offered for same day replays.
“Resort amenities are the lifeblood of an area like the Pocono Mountains, so we’re extremely pleased by the proactive efforts member resorts like The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort are implementing to enhance their golf-resort offerings,” says Robert Uguccioni, executive director of the Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau, Inc.
**The Tillinghast Approach Course is located adjacent to the Tillinghast Golf Academy by the main entrance of the resort. Golf Shop and registration for this course is conveniently located in the historic (circa 1762) Red Brick House.
