"The Nine Tenths Rule" is new golf themed legal mystery novel

"What's it about?"
"It's a mystery story."
"Great … but what's it about?"
"It's a legal mystery."
"Sounds good … but what's it about?"
"There's a bit of golf in it."
"Oh dear … no thanks, it's not for me!"

And that was the challenge S Ted Mitchell set himself when he wrote the Bainbridge Diaries series of golf themed legal mysteries - to alter preconceptions. "I wanted to write a yarn that even the most ardent anti-golf lobbyists might one day pick up, read and surprise themselves." And judging by early reviews, S Ted might well have succeeded.

The Nine Tenths Rule is the first in the completed series and has just been released in digital format, being distributed and sold by Zinio.com - one of the world's foremost digital magazine and book newsstands.

"Zinio are providing the perfect platform for my first edition," suggests S Ted. "Their digital format makes downloading straightforward and easy - direct to your PC, laptop. They've even in the last few days launched an app for your iPhone or iTouch, so reading on the move is now possible. There's even a Look Inside facility giving you a 'browse before you buy' option, and electronic gift vouchers if buying as a present. You'll find it on www.Zinio.com - Books - Mystery & Thrillers."

So returning to the original question … what's it about?

"The premise for the Bainbridge Diaries," explains S Ted, "centres on past events having legal consequences in the present. The central characters are Edward and Maurice Bainbridge, solicitors. Edward practiced in the 1920's, 30's & 40's in Stratford upon Avon, whilst Maurice runs the practice today. An increasing number of odd occurrences are forcing Maurice to both discover and consult his grandfather's copious diaries. Unresolved past events are resurfacing and each is having unsuspected legal consequences in the present. Blending golfing nostalgia with good old fashioned intrigue, and placing reliance on detailed accounts within the Bainbridge Diaries, Maurice and Edward combine forces, managing to work in partnership despite the latter having long since departed this world."

When will the two follow up novels be released?

"Over the next 18 months," S Ted advises. "Meanwhile, I'm looking to extend the available range of digital formats and grow the network. Whilst being the perfect media for any emerging writer to publish globally, I'm conscious digital doesn't suit everyone … that's why I'm keen to get copies out in paperback too."

After these three, will there be more added to the series?

"Definitely," says S Ted, "a few more at least. I'll also be looking to strengthen the brand by seeking a commercial partnership with a main player already established in the golfing business, one better able than I to promote and sell. For now though … yet more editing I'm afraid!"
