Mike Bailey: Take it from the Accidental Golfer, Dave Berner's 'Accidental Lessons' doesn't lack passion

I've always appreciated anyone who has a passion for his or her craft. Dave Berner is one of those guys.

You may remember Berner as the host of the TravelGolf.com This Week podcast. His enthusiasm was contagious. When he did an interview on a podcast, he brought out energy in his subjects, even me. Now he's got a new book out, and it sounds pretty interesting and inspiring.

Berner has been in broadcasting for more than 25 years and has worked for WMAQ in Chicago, ABC Radio, and freelanced for CNN and National Public Radio. He also once worked as the managing editor of Chicago Golf.

But when he reached a crossroads in life with several setbacks, including the loss of employment, Berner found himself taking a job at a public school in a tough, impoverished neighborhood.

His new (and first) book, "Accidental Lessons," takes the reader inside his own personal journey. The experience at that school taught him lessons about his own self, who he was, and why he became a journalist in the first place.

Check it out on Amazon.com. It's available in paperback for about $11. Or if you have an electronic Kindle device, you can get it that way, too.
