BOSTON -- The International, New England’s premiere 36-hole private golf club, has signed on to become a presenting sponsor of Jimmy Fund Golf, the oldest and largest grassroots golf program for charity in the nation. The five-year in-kind sponsorship is worth $500,000 to Jimmy Fund Golf, which raises funds for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.
“We are thrilled to welcome The International to the Jimmy Fund Golf family,” says Jimmy Fund Golf Director Nancy Rowe. “Their support will certainly help us reach another record breaking fundraising year.” This year, Jimmy Fund Golf is poised to raise $5.6 million for cancer research and treatment, bringing the 24-year total to more than $50 million.
The International has been hosting the organization’s year-end tournament, the Jimmy Fund Classic, since Jimmy Fund Golf’s 1983 inception, and it hosts a number of Jimmy Fund Golf tournaments throughout the course of each season.
“The sponsorship will enable us to formalize the longstanding relationship we’ve had with Jimmy Fund Golf, and to do more to raise awareness for the program,” says Brian Lynch, general manager of The International. “We’re extremely proud to play a role in helping Jimmy Fund Golf raise crucial funds for cancer research.”
The International, in Bolton, Mass., is home to two world-famous championship golf courses. The Pines course is the world's longest course at 8,325 yards according to the Guinness Book of World Records, and the 18-hole Oaks course was designed by world-renowned architect, Tom Fazio. The International joins American Airlines, Callaway Golf, Dunkin’ Donuts, and the Community Newspaper Company as the program’s presenting sponsors.
Jimmy Fund Golf
Jimmy Fund Golf is the largest, first, and longest running organized golf program for charity in the nation. It stands alone as a comprehensive example of the good that can be achieved by hundreds of volunteer tournament organizers and thousands of golfers who are united in their desire to connect their love for the game of golf to a higher cause – funding cancer research. Approximately 150 Jimmy Fund Golf tournaments around the country raised $5.5 million in 2005 for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Jimmy Fund Golf’s history is unique. The program was founded by volunteers who took it upon themselves to turn their golf game into a fundraising tool for cancer research. Some individual Jimmy Fund Golf tournaments date back more than 50 years and the official Jimmy Fund Golf program is now 24 years strong and has raised more than $47 million for cancer research and treatment.
