Golf du Médoc Hotel and Spa has confirmed its place as one of the finest golf destinations in France after being included in Golf World magazine's new top 100 courses in mainland Europe.
The Resort's Chateaux Course has won regular plaudits since opening in 1989 and has been ranked number 57 in the latest poll.
Measuring 6,946 yards off the championship tees and featuring a mixture of heather and broom, water hazards and well-placed ditches, the links-style course was the venue for the 1999 French Open, which was won by Retief Goosen.
The par-71 lay-out also staged the 2009 French PGA Championship in April, won by Michael Lorenzo-Vera, and the mixture of cleverly-designed doglegs and fast, well-guarded greens make the course a constant challenge.
Henry Martinet, manager at Golf du Medoc Hotel & Spa, said: "We are delighted to be given the recognition we deserve, and my thanks goes out to the inspectors representing Golf World magazine.
"It is also a testament to the excellent golf product we have in Bordeaux region throughout, and we are very pleased to be included with other great French courses."
Situated among the vineyards of the Médoc between Bordeaux and the spectacular beaches on the Atlantic coast, Golf du Médoc's 36-hole Hotel & Spa four-star complex offers access to some of the finest golf and wine tours in Bordeaux region.
As well as its more famous Chateaux Course, the four-star complex also features the Les Vignes Course which, measuring 6,842 yards in length, is a gentler but no less memorable test as it meanders through a regional mixture of moors and pines.
Golf du Médoc Resort offers 79 rooms and suites, two restaurants, two 18-hole championship golf courses, a fully equipped gym and spa and indoor swimming pool and lies within easy reach of the hundreds of wine chateaux in the region.
Martinet added: "It seems that it is getting easier and easier to get to the Bordeaux region by air from the UK, and we welcome the UK golfer with their great approach to the game.
The resort, which is situated just 20 minutes' drive from Bordeaux airport, is easily accessible from the UK with airports including London Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Liverpool, Southampton, Bristol, Dublin all flying to Bordeaux and for more information on their latest stay-and-play golf and wine packages, go to www.hotelgolfdumedoc.com or e-mail contact@hotelgolfdumedoc.com .
