NEW YORK -- It was announced the ADT Golf Skills Challenge, NBC's situational golf competition featuring PGA Tour pros in the unique, shot-making format, will move to one of America's legendary oceanfront resorts, The Breakers in Palm Beach. Now in its 18th year, the event will be taped in front of a private gallery on October 26 and is scheduled to air on NBC Sports over New Year's weekend, December 26 and 27.
Longtime title sponsor, ADT Security Services, the world's largest provider of electronic security services, will host the event in a cooperative arrangement with NBC Sports. The headquarters for ADT North America is located in Boca Raton, Fla., in Palm Beach County.
"Hosting this prestigious event in Palm Beach County is very important to ADT as we have a significant employee base here and it is a great way for us to give back to the community," said John Koch, president of ADT, North America.
"Each year, the ADT Skills Challenge is full of surprises like last year's stunning win by the father and son team of Greg Norman and Gregory Junior. We can't wait to see what this year holds in store," Koch added.
One of golf's most unique events, the ADT Skills Challenge has become a staple in golf's so-called "Challenge Season." It is etched on the calendar as the only golf on network TV in the final weekend of the year, when the sport is in its off-season. NBC devotes four hours of coverage over two days each December.
This year's event will feature a roster of professional golfers in a team format with the full field to be announced at a later date. Over the years, the ADT Golf Skills Challenge has featured the biggest names in golf, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, Nick Faldo, Padraig Harrington, Paul Azinger, Nick Price, Jason Gore, Peter Jacobsen, Annika Sorenstam, Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer. The event has also been known to add celebrity challengers to the mix in recent years, with notable names including Dan Marino, John Elway, Jerry Rice, Roger Clemens, Sterling Sharpe and Mark McGwire.
ADT Security Services, along with parent company Tyco International, is one of Palm Beach County's largest employers with more than 1,000 workers at several locations in Boca Raton. ADT employs more than 23,000 employees at 240 locations in the U.S. and Canada offering the latest electronic security products and services to residential, business and government customers.
"The Breakers is very honored to participate in this year's ADT Skills Challenge at our oceanfront resort. We value our relationships with both ADT and NBC and are excited to have an event of this caliber in Palm Beach County," said David Burke, VP sales and marketing at The Breakers.
