The Tarheel Golf Foundation has announced the Annual Carolina Cup Junior Challenge will be held at Mid Pines Resort in Pinehurst over the weekend of December 5-6, 2009. This annual event crowns individual champions in various age divisions and incorporates a state team component for players from each participating state. Each year the event alternates between courses located in North and South Carolina.
The tournament format consists of 36-holes stroke play event open to boys and girls ages 19 & under who have not yet completed high school, with an additional special team competition for players participating states. All Tarheel Golf Foundation tournaments are nationally ranked events.
Player Divisions include Boys' High School (Junior/Senior, Freshman/Sophomore), Boys' Middle School, Girls' High School, Girls' Middle School, Select Lower School players. The Team Competition takes the top finishers from participating states in each playing division after round one will be placed on their state team. The team with the lowest aggregate score wins the Team Cup Competition. Awards are earned for individual finishers in each division and team with the lowest total score.

The Mid Pines golf course is always in immaculate condition, it is an easy walking golf course and its Donald Ross classic design is a treat to play. The Pinehurst area, being The Home of American Golf offers golf enthusiasts rich history of the game in America. Entries for this event are now open and being accepted online. The event is already about 50% full." stated Eric Murray, of the Tarheel Golf Foundation.
The tournament entry fee is $130.00 and on site accommodations at Mid Pines Resort are offered to at a special rate of $79 per night.

About Mid Pines Resort
Mid Pines Resort is located in the Sandhills region of North Carolina in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area. The golf course was designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1921. The course has been restored and maintained to its original specifications. It is owned and operated by golf legend Peggy Kirk Bell and her family. The course has been host to national, state and regional championships.
