Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge Champions Tour Team announced

WHO: WENDY’S 3-TOUR CHALLENGE
Now celebrating its 18th anniversary, the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge, benefiting adoption, is the only professional golf tournament that pits three players from the PGA, LPGA and Champions Tours against each other in a head-to-head competition for tour bragging rights and a share of the $1 million dollar purse.

WHAT : CHAMPIONS TOUR TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT

Fred Funk, Jay Haas and Nick Price return to defend their 2008 Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge victory .

Fred Funk is one of the most recognizable names and personalities in golf. He has recorded eight PGA TOUR and five Champions Tour victories in a professional career that has spanned more than 20 years. Funk became eligible to participate on the Champions Tour in July of 2006 and that same month finished tied for 11th in his first event at the U.S. Senior Open. Three months and two starts later he recorded his first victory at the AT&T Championship. He continues to compete, and win, on both Tours. He has competed in six events on the 2009 PGA TOUR schedule and in 2007 became the fifth oldest champion in PGA TOUR history, and the oldest since 1975, when he recorded his eighth-career PGA TOUR victory at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. In 16 Champions Tour starts so far this year, Funk is currently ranked No. 1 in Charles Schwab Cup Points and No. 3 on the Champions Tour money list with nearly $1.4 million in earnings. Funk has posted 10 top-10 finishes so far in 2009, including three runner up finishes and his fifth career victory and first major championship at the U.S. Senior Open. He has been a member of two Presidents Cup teams (2003 and 2005) and one Ryder Cup team (2004). This will be Funk’s third straight Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge appearance.

Jay Haas will be making his sixth consecutive appearance at the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge. He was a member of the 2006 and (victorious) 2005 and 2008 Champions Tour teams and joined Fred Couples and John Daly on the 2004 PGA TOUR team. Haas has been a model of consistency over his more than 30-year professional career, recording nine PGA TOUR victories while never losing his TOUR Card. Since joining the Champions Tour in 2005, Haas has recorded 13 victories, including two majors at the 2006 and 2008 Senior PGA Championships. On strength of one victory and seven top-10 finishes so far in 2009, Haas is currently ranked No. 10 in Charles Schwab Cup Points and No. 7 on the Champions Tour money list. He has recorded at least one win in each of the five years he has competed on the Champions Tour. Haas has been a member of three Ryder Cup teams (1983, 1995 and 2004) and two Presidents Cup teams (1994 and2003) and received the Bob Jones Award from the U.S.G.A. in 2006, the highest honor given by the U.S.G.A. in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf.

Nick Price is a world-wide golf icon who has recorded 18 PGA TOUR and 24 international victories since turning professional in 1977. He has won three major championships (1992 and 1994 PGA Championships and the 1994 British Open Championship) and was the PGA TOUR Player of the Year and leading money winner in 1993 and 1994. Price was inducted into the World Golf Hall of fame in 2003 and in 2005 received the Bob Jones Award from the U.S.G.A., the highest honor given by the U.S.G.A. in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf. He has been a member of five Presidents Cup teams (1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2003). Now in his third full season on the Champions Tour Price has recorded seven top-10 finishes in 15 events played so far in 2009, including his first Champions Tour victory at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. Price will be competing in his third Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge in a row this November at Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada.
